Don't worry though, as soon as the rope dries it goes back to almost all of it's original length.

No, this rope isn't oiled, but a lot of people think it is since it has what some consider an "oily" smell. This rope is a natural fiber product, so it contains a small amount of moisture, and the organic nature of the fiber gives it the unique smell. Over time that smell goes away, but when it is new, you certainly know it because of the fragrance!
