The 1 1/2" manila rope is the most popular and versatile rope in the crossfit world. It's perfect for climbing due to its natural ability to soak up the sweat from your hands, making it easier to climb. This rope is also used a lot as a battle rope. It's budget friendly and as previously stated, the most versatile rope to use.
With some drawbacks of manila rope, like the sheading of its natural fibers, some people will opt to go with a synthetic rope. The synthetic ropes we recommend for exercise would be our polyester blend (best synthetic rope for climbing and can also be used for battle ropes), 8-strand polypropylene and 3-strand nylon.
The 8-strand polypropylene rope is a lighter rope which will enable you to have a longer work out and is great for cardio fitness. Since the 8-strand rope is not a twisted rope, it can be stored without worrying about the strands hockling on you. However, this is NOT the best rope to try to climb. As with the 3-strand nylon rope, it would too slick making it quite difficult to up the rope.
